Can I move a toilet, shower, or vanity during a remodel?

A fixture that fits on the floor plan still needs a complete route through the building.

How to test the idea before approving the layout

  1. Start with the actual fixture

    Use its rough-in drawing, mounting method, connection points, clearance information, and required accessories. A generic fixture symbol cannot show whether the chosen product fits.

  2. Trace the whole drainage path

The route may require locating, controlled cutting, excavation, bedding, testing, and concrete restoration.

Joist direction, engineered members, beams, ducts, and a finished ceiling can block the shortest path.

Slab thickness, reinforcement, existing utilities, pipe depth, soil, and moisture conditions cannot be assumed from the surface.

A structural review may change the route or the fixture position.

  • The selected fixture model, final centerline or opening, finished-floor height, and required clearances.
