Record every letter, number, flashing symbol, and sequence. A main code and subcode may describe different levels of detail.
Record when it appeared
Note whether the code occurred at startup, during a long draw, at low flow, when a second fixture opened, after maintenance, during freezing weather, or following a utility interruption.
Identify the exact unit
Photograph the exterior model and serial label from a dry location. Product families can use different control logic even when the cabinet looks similar.

Whether fuel pressure, combustion, electrical values, internal temperature, vent pressure, or component operation meets specification.
Whether a reset is part of the documented response after a temporary interruption.
Whether repeated resetting is masking a persistent fault or erasing useful history.
Common categories behind tankless codes
- No-flow or unexpected-flow conditions involving the water path.
- Ignition or flame-loss conditions on gas models.
- Combustion-air, fan, exhaust, or condensate conditions on applicable equipment.
- Inlet, outlet, heat-exchanger, or high-limit temperature conditions.
- Scale or maintenance reminders, which are not the same as a measured component failure.
- Communication, wiring, sensor, or power-supply conditions.
- Freeze-protection or environmental conditions described by the specific product documentation.
Some manuals provide a limited reset after the original condition is corrected. A reset is a command to try the operating sequence again; it is not a repair.
