Oklahoma Natural Gas should identify what it owns, operates, or authorizes at the property. Its tariff defines the point of delivery and several service-line arrangements. [1]
House piping, a customer-owned yard or ancillary line, branch piping, or a building shutoff
After the utility controls any hazard and confirms customer responsibility, use a contractor whose Oklahoma license covers the natural-gas-piping scope. [4]
Appliance connector, appliance shutoff, or appliance inlet
First establish whether the concern is the supply connection or something inside the appliance. The required licensed trade and manufacturer instructions depend on the equipment and work.
Burner, ignition, internal gas valve, vent, combustion air, controls, or electrical supply
These are not automatically gas-line repairs. They may belong with an HVAC contractor, appliance technician, electrician, manufacturer-authorized provider, or another qualified trade.
The meter is a useful landmark, but it is not a universal ownership rule. Oklahoma Natural Gas Tariff 1051 defines the point of delivery and describes company-owned service lines, property-owner yard or service lines, ancillary lines, and customer-owned distribution networks. Some arrangements also reflect older installations or owner elections. [1]
That is why an outdoor pipe is not automatically utility-owned and an indoor concern does not identify the responsible trade by itself. Ask Oklahoma Natural Gas to name the affected facility and responsibility boundary in its record. A contractor's proposal should then name only the customer-owned segment and work it covers. [1] [4]
How to find the right party for a non-emergency problem
Confirm the serving fuel supplier
Use the current account and property records. Oklahoma Natural Gas guidance applies to its natural-gas customers, not to a propane tank or another utility.
Ask the utility to mark the boundary
Describe the reported segment without disturbing the meter or piping, and request the ownership or point-of-delivery determination for the actual service arrangement.
Keep the utility record
Save the tag, notice, work-order reference, shutoff reason, photographs supplied by the utility, and restoration instructions.
Verify the license for the work
Oklahoma lists a natural-gas-piping contractor scope from the point of delivery to appliance connections. Confirm the license and any local registration before authorizing customer-side work. [4]
Separate repair from restoration
A finished customer-owned repair does not authorize anyone to remove a utility lock or restore service. Follow Oklahoma Natural Gas and the local inspection authority for the remaining steps. [2] [3]

- What utility record or inspection finding assigns that segment to the property owner?
- Is the proposed work on permanent piping, an appliance connection, or the appliance itself?
- Which license, permit, pressure test, inspection, and restoration step applies?
- Who handles access, excavation, appliance movement, startup, and finish repair?
- Which utility or local approval must be complete before gas can return?
