A slab leak describes where a supply pipe failed, not why it failed or which repair will make sense.

  • Direct access and a spot repair may fit a well-located, isolated defect when opening the floor is practical and the nearby pipe appears serviceable.
  • Rerouting can bypass the failed section when direct access would cause major damage, but the new path still has to protect the pipe from freezing, structural conflicts, and difficult future service.
  • Replacing a longer run or repiping part of the system deserves a separate discussion when failures repeat or exposed pipe shows a broader condition problem. One leak under the floor does not automatically justify a whole-home repipe.
